UC Sheffield is the home of university level study at The Sheffield College and we are proud to be a core education partner of the South Yorkshire Institute of Technology. Together, we are committed to meeting future skills needs and supporting technological innovation to drive economic growth in our region.
At UC Sheffield, we focus on career-driven courses that are delivered through hands-on, practical training. We offer a range of Level 4 and 5 courses that encompass three IoT pathways – construction, engineering and healthcare.
Whether you study at our City, Olive Grove or Hillsborough Campus, we’ve invested heavily in our facilities, designed to mirror real working environments. From a state-of-the-art healthcare ward to dedicated construction and engineering workshops. We have also secured £2.6million to transform our Olive Grove Campus into a brand-new Advanced Technology Centre.
Our construction pathway encompasses both management and quantity surveying so that you can choose to specialise in the career you want.
Each of these qualifications are designed to develop a broad understanding and practical experience in the typical tasks and requirements of construction management professionals and the underpinning academic knowledge.
You’ll also develop your practical abilities in our dedicated construction workshops, based at our City Campus.
An engineering qualification from UC Sheffield aims to develop engineers with a broad set of skills and knowledge that can be applied to modern and emerging technologies for a wide range of sectors. Whether you specialise in manufacturing or electrical engineering, our focus is to make you career-ready upon graduation.
Both pathways will provide students with transferrable skills such as project management and quality control in addition to acquiring top-level academic knowledge.
Engineering students will be able to take advantage of learning in industry-standard workshops at our Olive Grove Campus.
Our Professional Practice in Health and Social Care programmes are ideal for those just starting out in their career, as well as professionals looking to upskill in their current role. Combining classroom-based study with existing employment or placement opportunities, students will develop their skills and competencies for a wide range of roles across the health, social or community care sectors.
Whether you opt to study the Certificate of Higher Education, or the full Foundation Degree, you’ll cover key concepts such as person-centred care and leadership and management. You’ll also have the opportunity to work and learn in our brand-new, state-of-the-art hospital ward so that you can bring the techniques learned on the programme into a practical setting, before developing these on a placement.
Demi Darby, FdSc Professional Practice in Health and Social Care graduate
Demi completed her studies alongside being a young carer and graduated with a Foundation Degree in Professional Practice in Health and Social Care.
“I am so pleased that all the hard work has paid off thanks to the support from The Sheffield College. Being a young carer, it was difficult to manage my studies.
I have always wanted to be a paramedic but I didn’t know how to achieve that. If it wasn’t for the advice and support that I received [at The Sheffield College], I wouldn’t have graduated.
My favourite thing about studying at The Sheffield College was the placement opportunities. I liked that they gave you the option of having a more practical approach, and they really touch on people’s [individual] learning needs.”
Demi is now pursuing further study at Sheffield Hallam University to achieve her dream of becoming a paramedic.
